The Voids Adrift project was brought to my attention by a friend. Given the state of their UI design, I volunteered my time to create a UI system for their game. The setting and feel here was that of flying skyships in a post-apocalyptic world with a diesel-punk vibe.
With this project, I was given freedom to tinker and mold the design elements within the feel of the game. The design evolved into elements with jagged edges, achieving a worn and tattered aesthetic which married well with the feel of the world.
In addition to the UI elements, I was also invited to create some 3D assets. So, I fired up Blender and took a shot.
The items that I was tasked with creating were a couple of drones (jet and prop powered) which the player could remotely pilot to gain reconnaissance information before entering a potentially hostile environment, and the dock, which is where the skyships could dock suspended above them. I started by creating separate pieces (kitbashing) and then combined and topologized them for use in the game. In order to further understand how the drones should work, I created an animation.
